  • Our company was founded by siblings Gayatri (“Gaya”) Roshan and Joris Gunawardena.

Gaya is an award-winning documentary filmmaker who has worked in climate adaptation and deep ecology in over 20 countries across nonprofit and for-profit sectors.

Joris is an accomplished farmer and technologist who has served on UK government task forces and grew the most productive community farm in London for a decade.

Gaya and Joris share a passion for making climate adaptation accessible and financially rewarding. As a longtime resident of Los Angeles—and Angeleno at heart—Gaya felt that the City of Angels, which is one of the world’s most climate vulnerable cities, was the perfect place to pilot Dashboard.Earth.

  • We’re what’s called a public benefit corporation. While different from a nonprofit, we’re dedicated to generating social and public good and to operating in a responsible and sustainable manner.

We collaborate with climate-focused institutions that seek tangible climate outcomes and trust us as the platform to bring climate resilience to life. One such partner is Accelerate Resilience L.A. (ARLA), who envisions Los Angeles as a climate-resilient region that is safer, healthier, and more prepared for our increasingly dangerous climate reality.

We also work with local nonprofits to bring vetted climate solutions directly to residents.

  • We’re in a climate crisis. That’s not hyperbole. It’s the unvarnished truth.

What’s the best solution? In our eyes, it’s local climate resilience.

Climate resilience focuses on how well communities and ecosystems can handle and bounce back from the impacts of climate change—and prevent those impacts from getting worse.

To become resilient to climate change, we must combine climate mitigation (solutions that address root causes, like greenhouse gas emissions) with climate adaptation (solutions that protect against the threats that are already present, like drought) and local community-building (because we’re all in this together).

Take tree-planting, for example. Yes, trees help to keep CO2 out of the atmosphere. But they also keep urban areas cool during heat waves (up to 9°F!), clean the air you breath, increase the value of real estate, improve mental health, draw rainwater into the aquifer, and support biodiversity. Ready to get planting?

Fear is paralyzing and not conducive to action. We believe it’s time to start feeling good about the future, and climate resilience is how we get there.

  • There is value in every climate positive choice you make, and climate action shouldn’t be a sacrifice. At the heart of our mission is to offer people meaningful climate actions that save—or make—them money and contribute to the preservation of the planet.

We created Dashboard.Earth to connect the dots between climate solutions, financial incentives, people, and places in a way that drives measurable impact. We have a few short years to adapt to our changing climate and we believe our survival will depend on everyone having the ability, resources, and incentives necessary to act.

  • Los Angeles is the most climate-vulnerable city in America. But it has ambitious climate goals, including to become one of the most climate resilient cities in the world.

We believe we can work with Angelenos to make this goal a reality. Let’s do this!

  • LA County has big plans when it comes to climate adaptation and resilience.

Its climate goals are synthesized in LA County’s Sustainable City pLAn(also called “L.A.’s Green New Deal”). For a quicker summary on the 150+ page plan, you can check out this Targets page.

We’ve handpicked five specific goals that are most actionable by everyday Angelenos, and that we believe everyone can rally around to show real progress in real time:

Make LA 7 degrees cooler by increasing tree canopy to 40%.

Divert 95% of landfill waste through compost and reusables .

Achieve zero net loss of biodiversity.

    Source 100% of water locally.

    Transition to 100% renewable energy.

  • We work with partners because we believe there is no omnipotent organization that can tackle this monumental generational task—climate change—alone.

At the same time, we believe thinking of climate change as an Earth-sized behemoth isn’t the right way to beat it. Climate adaptation is local. That’s why we take a city-by-city approach, working with the most trusted, well-established environmental partners in each region we serve

Ultimately, we want our platform to be participatory, bioregional, and hyperlocal; our partnerships help us bring this to life.

  • Our partners are the most trusted, well-established environmental non-profits and mission-aligned brands in Los Angeles County. That way, we can ensure the solutions we provide to Angelenos are vetted and aligned with what subject matter experts recommend.

They’re as passionate about climate resilience as we are. Plus they also believe in a hyperlocal approach that engages folks on their level, addressing their fears, and helping them build more climate resilient systems in their homes and communities.
