Easy Steps to Water-Smart Living

Whether you're already a conservation champ or looking to up your eco game, follow these simple steps to claim your free water-saving gear:

How to tell if you need a low flow shower head

First, check to make sure your current shower heads aren't already low flow. If the label on your current shower head has a gallons per minute (GPM) of over 1.8, it's time for an upgrade.

No label? No problem. Follow these steps:

  1. Max out your shower for 20 seconds, collecting water in a bucket

  2. If you catch a gallon or more of water, it's time for an upgrade.

How to tell if you need a faucet aerator

Here's how to tell if you'll benefit from an aerator. First, check to see there's a label along the rim of your faucet head indicating low flow. If not, here's what to do:

  1. Make sure your faucet fixture is in its normal position.

  2. Turn on the tap, and collect the water in a container for exactly 10 seconds.

  3. Measure how much water you collected, and convert to gallons. Here's a calculator to help.

  4. Multiply it by 6. If the result is higher than 1.2 in your bathroom or higher than 1.8 in your kitchen, it’s time to get an aerator!
