First, check to make sure your current shower heads aren't already low flow. If the label on your current shower head has a gallons per minute (GPM) of over 1.8, it's time for an upgrade.

How to tell if you need a faucet aerator
Here's how to tell if you'll benefit from an aerator. First, check to see there's a label along the rim of your faucet head indicating low flow. If not, here's what to do:
Make sure your faucet fixture is in its normal position.
Turn on the tap, and collect the water in a container for exactly 10 seconds.
Measure how much water you collected, and convert to gallons. Here's a calculator to help.
